Since its early access stages, the game included a single-player mode as well as a party mode, which features a leaderboard with the player's names, which are entered after each song is played. Both of these new mechanics also calculate score differently than the original blocks. It is connected to a block and continues on until it either connects to another block or stops altogether. An arc is a line showing the recommended path for your saber to follow. After the lead slice, there are a number of smaller "slices" which can be cut. One new mechanic features a new block called a Chain, which starts with a "slice" which indicates which direction to cut. Since the addition of Original Soundtrack (OST) 5, two new mechanics were introduced to the game. If you achieve so many notes hit correctly in a row your score on every note is multiplied by 8, giving you a much higher score. If you slice the notes correctly, you can create a combo which gives you more points. You can choose a setting known as 'No Fail' in which you may keep playing the level even after your energy has been depleted. If the bar becomes completely empty, the level will end. If the player completely misses a note, the bar will lose a larger amount. ![]() If the player hits any note in the incorrect direction, this 'energy bar' will decrease by a small bit. Underneath the path where the blocks travel is a white bar that slowly fills up as the player hits notes correctly. In addition, there are occasionally bombs that the player should not hit, and obstacles in the form of oncoming walls that the player's head should avoid. These backs are called notes by most Beat Saber players. When a block is properly cut by a saber, it is destroyed and a score is awarded, based on the length and angle of the swing and the accuracy of the cut. There are also blocks with dots instead of arrows, which players may hit in any direction. ![]() Each one may also be marked with an arrow indicating one of eight possible directions in which the block may be required to be cut through. In each song, the game presents the player with a stream of approaching blocks laid out in sync with the song's beats and notes, located in one of the 12 possible positions of a 4x3 grid. Also note that while the odd discussion post about novelty clones is allowed, posting generic gameplay of games that aren't Beat Saber is not.The player uses VR motion-sensing controllers to wield a pair of glowing sabers, which by default are colored red and blue for left and right respectively, although the colors are changeable. Clones are allowed if they have some novelty value, usually homebrew stuff, like the Minecraft Beat Saber mod, for example. There are just too many for them to be posted regularly. Mobile clones and cheap knockoffs are off-topicīeat Saber is mega popular and therefore has about a billion clones. Self-promoting your own music (unless it's an honest request) doesn't belong anywhere since this is a video game community. Map requests should be made on r/beatsabersongs or the song-requests channel on the Modding Discord. This only applies to scoreposts - general video posts on Beat Saber content are fine. Low effort images of scores (such as with cameras/non-screenshots) are explicitly not allowed, and if you are unsure about whether it belongs in the megathread or not, then it usually belongs in the megathread. ![]() Scoreposts of low entertainment or interest value should be put in the weekly thread If an article has a clickbait title but you still want to post it, do your best to rephrase the title for reddit. Users should not have to click a post to find out what it's about. The title of a post should describe it's content. Links just to a channel or live stream are not allowed. "It's perfectly fine to be a redditor with a Youtube channel, it's not okay to be a Youtube channel with a reddit account." Posting videos/clips relevant to the game is ok if you aren't spamming them. No inciting drama, brigading, personal attacks, baiting, trolling, etc.
